Effective September 30, 2025, the U.S. government is phasing out paper checks for most federal payments and collections under Executive Order 14247, “Modernizing Payments To and From America’s Bank Account”. Agencies are directed to use electronic funds transfers (EFT), such as direct deposit or prepaid cards, to improve security, reduce fraud, and increase efficiency.
